The level of water in the sumps around a refinery should be reliably monitored to prevent overfilling and subsequently pollution or pump overload. In the past, legacy ultrasonic level sensors were unreliable after wash downs, when foaming chemicals entered the pits. The Rosemount 1208 are superior to ultrasonic technologies, as they are unaffected by foam, condensation or turbulence. Besides, the Rosemount 1208 can be paired to the Rosemount 3490 Controller, which enables mining to comply with regulation by having a continuous access to detailed data to share with authorities.

The Rosemount 1208 Series provides accurate and reliable level measurement and open channel flow calculations. The radar level transmitter has been designed to solve challenges in water and wastewater-, utilities- and basic chemical applications. The Rosemount 1208 uses continuous non-contacting radar technology in a compact PVDF housing with drinking water and food grade approvals. Its encapsulated design also withstands outdoor conditions and is fully submersible over extended periods of time. The Rosemount 3490 Series provide comprehensive control functionality for 4–20 mA or HART compatible transmitters, such as the Rosemount 1208 Level and Flow Transmitter. The series consist of two models that offer varying levels of control functionality depening on your specific application needs. The Rosemount 3490 Controller enables simple programming through intuative wizards for level and flow measurement to control pumps, totalize flows, log data and calculate differentials. The controller is easy-to-read and has a colored LCD display that offers a simple, intuitive and an user-centric interface.
